First "Fieldtrip Friday"

So this summer we are doing some sort of "Field trip" every Friday. The park, ice cream shop, movies, museum, are all in the plan. This first field trip was rather spontaneous. Troy and I needed more pepper & tomato plants for the garden so we decided to visit the Sweet Corn Organic Nursery in Linden.
We made a big "to do" of it. Troy even stopped and got each kid their own large laffy taffy.

It was fairly easy to find and quite interesting to visit. To say the least.
We just happened to go on the day that their state sales rep was visiting and boy did we get to know our plants and soil and fertilizers and growing techniques and tomato varieties and pepper varieties and what not to do and what to do in the garden. It got so long that finally when we were checking out and he asked if we would like instructions on how to use this fertilizer I just said, "only if you can narrow it down to 3 steps and keep it under 1 minute." He agreed and 83$ was handed over and we walked to the car with our plants and soil amenders. The kids had headed for the car a lot earlier and had the laffy taffy devoured.(If you have ever seen the mess my kids can make with a graham cracker than you can imagine the state of the kids and car after 4  Large Laffy Taffys)
Troy and I laughed all the way home about the experience we really had learned a lot but figured we had definitely got snowed over because we had spent so much!
Our plans to go to the lake after were quickly dismissed. Troy after digesting what he had just spent on our plants and so called miracle fertilizer which is basically fish guts and seaweed he was on one mission and mission only to plant those dang expensive plants and start reaping the harvest as soon as possible.
Our Semi-Organic Garden looks really good by the way....although we are growing grass and weeds right along with our veggies.

I'm not sure if the kids think field trips are fun yet.
Good thing we have more Friday's.
