Navajo County Fair

This year Rustin joined the 4h club and raised a pig for the fair. He took good care of his pig and prepared for the fair for months...feeding him...walking him....brushing him...attending meetings for 4h...and Finally the big day arrived...

This is Pitcher the Pig. Rustin was given a pen to keep him along with specific instructions for his care each day. His pen was to be kept clean and the pig well fed.

The first day he got to show the pig in front of the judges. The pigs are judged and so is the showman.

Rustins pig got a red ribbon which meant he could auction him in the sale. The really great pigs got blue ribbons. Rustin learned a lot this year and feels like he knows more about what the judges are looking for. He says he can improve and wants to go back next year.

As you can see he was proud to receive a ribbon at all and hung it right up so all could see.

Rustin is such a good sport and is so teachable he really enjoys trying new things.

The second day He showed his pig again in front of the buyers at the auction. 

He felt even more confident now that he knew what to expect.

The showman uses a stick to help guide the pig around.

The boys and I got to watch the auction. I love auctions they are so fun to listen to. Rustin sold his pig for a really good price.

 Afterward he went right over and shook hands with his buyer, thanking him and introducing himself.

 (As I watched him he seemed so sure of himself so grown -up I felt very proud of him as I caught a glimpse of the good man he is becoming)

The pig provided a great experience for all of us. It was a really neat event to be a part of.

Afterward we took a family outing around the fair grounds...

We met up with family for dinner, Hamburgers, Hotdogs, and Homemade curly fries smothered in ketchup (Lydias favorite!)

We visited all the animals and played ball in the grass.

We got see a couple shows. The girls went over to see ELVIS and tried to avoid getting kissed. Chelsey however took a front row seat and kept moving to make sure she did get kissed. She even got a silk Elvis scarf to KEEP! Yes it was her lucky day.

We also watched the REPTILE show. This was fun, full of creatures my kids love....snakes...turtles.

Yes I was the lucky enough to hold this giant snapping turtle. He is over 100 years old.

He was quite slimy too. Wow I was so brave. Natalie took this picture for my kids.

They were so proud of me.

My Crazy Kids!

About dark we headed over to the carnival rides. We about choked when we saw how much they were charging for tickets. But after a family discussion we broke down and bought enough for everyone who wanted to atleast get one ride. 

Jaxon chose the race cars but got so terrified on the first turn they stopped the ride and gave his tickets back. So he chose the slow Mac trucks instead.  

HE LOVED IT!

Kasen had been begging to go on the big green slide for days and tonight he finally got his chance.

It was fun while it lasted which was of course way to short. He felt a little cheated.

ZOOM!

Lacey chose the tallest ride at the park and up up we went and around around around.

She invited me to go with her it was fun. She was a little nervous but proud of herself for trying it.

Kasen and Lacey finished off our tickets on the bumble bee ride.

We loved being a part of the fair more than the carnival but it was an experience to try it all.

It was good to be together as a family and try new things together.
